Virginia Greening apple

A large, oblate, yellowish-green apple with hard, firm flesh. Valued as a late keeper. Flesh creamy yellow or greenish, very firm, hard, breaking, coarse, moderately juicy, mild, subacid becoming somewhat sweet.

      My grandfather was in the wholesale produce business in the 1930s with his uncles in San Francisco. He mentioned that this variety was very popular in China, and they shipped them there from the US (I’m assuming by ship.) they did by boat)
