I took cuttings of Black Twig from the orchard of Ed Hick of Southern Illinois, who had about fifty trees that he used to press cider. Ed has passed along with his orchard, which was extensive and included peaches; but I have six grafted Black Twig apples in my own orchard now, in Oregon. They are a good cider apple, with plenty of juice, sugar, acid and tannin, and they produce a good crop annually. I would be glad to provide scion wood.

Just tried two small ones from an organic farm in Kansas. Very crisp and crunchy. Thick skin. Flesh has a greenish yellow tint, mildly tart with enough sweetness for balance. The larger of the two was sweeter.
