Owner's comments

This tree stands alone in the middle of a paddock. However, mapping from the 1840's shows it was in the middle of an orchard which had gone by the 1860's. It is a short distance from the former nursery of William Perfect of Pontefract. Ribston Pippin was first grafted by Perfect in the 1820's. It is possible that this tree is the oldest Ribston Pippin in existence.
