Owner's comments

I bought scion wood and grafted the calvile blanc d'hiver on an m4 rootstock. The tree grows nice and vigorous. It's central leader has been removed to make a vase shape. My wife likes to bake and I asked her to make some tarte tatin if this tree bears apples. I already have reine des reinettes (king of the pippins). I want to taste this....tarte tatin thing. Another reason I wanted this calville variety is, because it is a winter apple. I do not want to go to the chain stores to buy tasteless apples.
