Owner's comments

The tree grows on my lawn area, with a metre-diameter area around the base which is kept weed-free manually. It does not grow very vigorously, and is still barely 2 metres high with virtually no pruning. However, it crops reliably every year, and normally has over 100 good-sized fruits; it has rarely required thinning. It needs a long season to ripen fully in the UK, and is best picked as late as possible if it is to store well - which it needs to do, as it is virtually inedible for the first few months. Given the right conditions, it will store for six months, and is best to eat after storage for 3 or 4 months. It regularly gets infested by Woolly Aphid, which rarely occurs on other apple trees in my garden; maybe it is susceptible due to the tree's relative lack of vigour. I normally deal with the Woolly Aphid by rubbing it out with my fingers (a messy job!)
