Season records for this tree

  • 2015

    Size: 2.0m / 6.7ft high   1.0m / 3.3ft wide
Nice growth! Overzealous weeding resulted in weakening the surface roots, and tree was knocked over during an summer storm. Installed scaffolding to hold in place while these roots are replaced.
  • 2014

    Size: 1.5m / 5.0ft high   1.0m / 3.3ft wide
    Cedar-apple rust: Not present
Moved to final location in orchard. Pruned to 4 foot. Apparently well established and happy, a full 6 feet tall in late November, and significant trunk thickness developing. In spite of having been listed as somewhat difficult to grow, thusfar this is a vigorous grower. Some permanent branches are now established.

Received as fresh benchgraft from Greenmantle Nursery; planted in vegetable garden while orchard space is cleared. This was the only survivor of 5 purchased; losses attributed to insufficient light and general inexperience.
