Owner's comments

Montmorency pie cherry, the dominant pie cherry of the United States. There is good reason for this. The taste and the tree crops well, perhaps too well. I thinned some of the blooms this year because there were so many. The Gisela 5 rootstock works well for a home grower like me. The rootstock produces a wide heavily branched tree that has many cherries and is small enough to completely pick with a small step ladder. The tree is not staked but stands well even though it is exposed to strong wind from the South.

Good harvest this year. First year using bird scare tape when fruit started to color. Some leaf spot problems in the fall.
