20120812: Noticed for the first time this year the formation of grey spots on the apple. Looks like normal growth.
20120510: Four flowers were successfully pollinated and setting fruit.
20120504: Looks like I successfully hand pollinated at least two apples.
20120426: Ananas Reinette seems to be a long term bloomer. This is the first year it has flowered for me, however the branch tips started blooming first, now flower buds are forming all along the branches. I have flowers already past prime, just open/opening, and buds just forming so may be able to cross with Tremlett's Bitter also. Unusual apple to say the least.
20120416: My Ananas Reinette has many flower buds. I noted peak bloom day yesterday. There are still many closed flower buds so may flower over a long period. I have been hand pollinating the flowers hoping to set fruit. Will pollinate with Gold Russet any day now when that apple tree flowers (thank you Orange Pippin).
20120409: Two buds opened. Watch for a picture of the flower. Sent to Orange Pippin today. Flowers are small, no scent noticeable. Hand pollinated one with Hewes Virginia crab and the other with the Siberian crab apple.
20120408: The flower buds are a reddish-violet color so anxious to see it flower! Should be tomorrow.
20120404: First flowers forming on three year old tree. The buds are dark pink.
20120310: Sprayed with dormant oil and bordeaux spray.
20110821: Good lateral growth the first year but not in height. Will prune once the leaves fall off. Training branches to grow more parallel to the ground.
20110322: Planted will keep you posted on growth and fruiting. The chicken wire around the tree is to keep the animals from chewing the bark off the trees and killing them (that is what happened to three of my hazelnut bushes). I also read that chicken wire will keep deer off (they like to rub their antler fur in the autumn).
Ordered this apple from Trees of Antiquity in August 2010 for Spring 2011 delivery.
