Age:Planted in about 2009
Age of this tree:16 years
Rootstock:Bought from Walmart as a Golden Delicious. First apples were red. I guessed it was a Mcintosh.
Soil:6 inches of soil over clay. 
Climate at this location:Temperate. Freezes from November through March. Four full seasons. temp 100 F to -5 F.
Pruning:Prune every year to spread tree and allow a central leader
Tree form:Bush (wider at top than bottom)
Height:Between 6ft / 2m and 15ft / 4m
Cropping:Heavy crops
Growth:This tree does not grow well here
Herbicides:Manual treatment (hoeing and weeding)
Pesticides:Organic treatments
Local pests:Japanese Beetles (Horrible the last two years.)

Owner's comments

Tree barely grew for years when finally it took off. I think it's roots were able to get through the clay to the water table which is close to the surface in limestone rock under the clay.
