The cold Spring meant that the harvest started over a week later than normal. Lack of sharp frosts at blossom time produced a good flower-set and the fruit had more flavour this year, as the Summer was warm and fairly dry. Fairly dry conditions at harvest time meant minimal grazing from slugs and snails and no splitting.
