Book Review: The New Book of Apples

The New Book of Apples
The Definitive Guide to Apples Including over 2,000 Varieties
by Joan Morgan and Alison Richards
Copyright 1993, revised and updated 2002. 316 pages.
This is one book that should be in the library of anyone interested in apples! The book details the history of the apple, historical uses, how the fruit has evolved across multiple continents -- including a chapter on the hisory of cider across the world. The second half of the book contains characteristics of over 2000 apple varieties, as well as including one of the best chapters detailing the various apple characteristics.
While an excellent reference without them, the book also intersperses 32 beautiful apple watercolor plates painted by Elisabeth Dowle to make the book an attractive table book as well.
