We are grateful to Mr J. Olsen of Vejle, Denmark for information about this variety.
Nonnetit Bastard was first described in 1913 - at which time it was already widely grown in the south-eastern part of Jutland, mostly around the city of Kolding. It was subsequently included in the book "Fruit Varieties of Denmark" by Anton Pedersen, published in 1940.
It is considered a high quality desert apple, which keeps quite well.

| I would like to know more about this apple. I lived in Danmark for some years and I loved eating the local apple varieties. I would like to grow some of these apple types. Anyone selling trees, grafts? |

| I like the apple so much because of its nice flavour and texture - crisp, juicy and with a good sweet flavour with some almond-like aroma. Season is October-February. Not much haunted by diseases, but can have some non-crucial canker-swellings like its probable German mother variety, Prinzenapfel (aka Nonnetitte, Melonappie). It is not grown commercially, but deserves much more attention, recently it has been re-introduced in Danish gardens due to the rising interest in traditional varieties. |
