Duchess's Favourite apple

Duchess's Favourite is a traditional English summer apple, originating from Surrey in the early 19th century.  The fruits take on a pretty red flush

The flavour is sharp, acidic, but fairly mild.  It is pleasant enough when eaten straight from the tree but there are many better varieties now available which ripen at the same time, such as Discovery.

The flesh can have some pink staining, which is also found in Beauty of Bath and Discovery, suggesting there may be some relation to them.
